Survive the Temptations of Tailgaiting !

Hey football fans!!! I hope you are all enjoying the start of the season I'm sure some of you are thrilled that your team is doing great and some of you are hanging your heads in shame lol. Either way I'm sure most of you enjoy a good tailgate or get-together at the game or your own place and that means crazy good but sinful food. I love going to live sporting events and it can be tough when you're trying to watch your weight or like me, getting prepared for a figure competition. I have some tips to help you enjoy the season as well as keep that six pack from turning into a keg ;)

BBQ: BBQ sauce is LOADED with sugar so if your working towards a healthier body u can easily make tasty grilled food by using hickory wood chips(get these in the charcoal section of your grocery store) wrapped in foil on the grill. Use Mrs. Dash and your favorite juice(lemon, lime, pineapple or grapefruit, etc.) for seasoning instead of sugary marinades and salt to season your chicken, fish, veggies. You CAN tailgate healthy with tasty food :)

Bring your food to the event: I live in South GA where football is a Religion and the concession stand smells of funnel cakes and other fried treats so When I go to a game I take all of my healthy food with me in a cooler so I'm not tempted to cave in and buy a snickers bar or nachos from the concession. Pack slices of extra sweet potatoes instead of buying french fries. My cooler always consists of enough food to last through the event and the ride home if its a long drive.

H2O: Bring bottled water with you and drink it between your healthy meals and snacks it helps me stay full and less tempted. Beware of sodas(esp diet!) and energy drinks packed with sugar and sugar substitutes...If you want juice just bring some pieces of fruit instead as most juices have the same if not more sugar than some carbonated beverages. I always keep protein powder with me or I drink one before I get to the game to keep me full for awhile, at least til Overtime :).

Team "Spirits": For those who enjoy a good beer or other alcohol use caution as these beverages are loaded with carbs and some have just as much sugar as a dessert from Applebees! Fitness Magazine suggests that you stick to no more than two 5-ounce glasses of wine, 12-ounce bottles of beer, or 1-1/2-ounce glasses of liquor a day.

Remember its okay to treat yourself every once in awhile but these tips will help you survive the season and enjoy it as well! Stay tuned for more tips and recipes for the football season!
